Recycling and waste targets
The government has set targets for recycling waste in order to prevent waste going to landfill.
The government target for recycling local authority collected waste by 2035 is 65% of the total collected waste. The target is also for no more than 10% of local authority waste going to landfill by 2035.
Local authority waste is household waste and business waste where it is collected by the local authority or through its service provider.
Our aim is:
- to reduce household waste to under 203.64kg per person
- to reuse 61.97% of household waste
- to recycle/ compost 55% of municipal waste
- to recycle/compost/reuse 75% of waste from household recycling centres
