More information about maths courses

Many people would like to gain a maths qualification in order to refresh their skills, access new job opportunities or to attend further or higher education.

Multiply offers a range of options including smaller bitesize unit based qualification, Functional Skills qualifications up to level 2 and distance learning options.

Functional Skills

Good maths skills can help you improve your job prospects and help with everyday tasks at home. Adult Community learning can provide City and Guilds maths qualifications from Entry Level to Level 2 to develop new skills and cover everything from the very basics to more advanced. This may cover topics such as: measuring distances, calculating areas for home decoration and improvement, understanding payslips and work rotas and more.

Functional Skills level 2 is often an entry requirement for further or higher education courses.

Online learning

Some people prefer to learn online and are able to motivate themselves and study independently. Multiply offers a level 2 maths qualification that can be studied at home through the internet, with an exam offered at our main learning centre when you are ready. You will have weekly access to e-learning resources and a personal tutor who can keep you on track and provide extra support for topics you struggle with.

This option does not suit everyone, please contact multiply@iow.gov.uk to discuss your interest.

Fast tracked qualifications

If you are highly motivated and can commit 4 hours a week to studying for your qualification then a fast tracked route may suit you. This is a classroom based course for 2 hours per week with additional work to practice at home in order to help you achieve a level 1 or level 2 qualification in a shorter timeframe. This course will include 16 weeks of tutor support and 4 weeks of exam preparation. Courses will commence in September and February.

Bitesize qualifications

You may want to improve your maths skills at a slower pace. Multiply offers small bitesize qualifications based in specific topics you might struggle with.

This course is classroom based. Units are available at all levels from Entry 1 to Level 2. Topics include:

  • decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
  • positive and negative numbers
  • fractions, decimals and percentages

Extra help is available to all learner who may need it including support for dyslexia, dyscalculia and Irlen’s syndrome for example.
